Thomas Tuchel gives coy reply on Bayern links with Ronald Araujo

Ronald Araujo has 1bn release clause in his new Barca contract

In an effort to persuade Ronald Araujo, a defender for Barcelona, to relocate to Bavaria, Bayern Munich manager Thomas Tuchel has spoken with the player over the phone.

Florian Plettenberg reports that Tuchel and Christoph Freund, the Bayern sporting director, spoke with Araujo on Friday in an attempt to persuade him to relocate to Germany.

Araujo has reportedly been identified by the Bayern management as a top target, and they would stop at nothing to sign him.

Tuchel on reports about direct call with Ronald Araujo: “I won’t comment on that in any direction. We only talk about our players”.

“I also spoke to my mother on the phone and there were no reports of it!”, told SkyDE.

Bayern may try to coerce Barcelona into selling their defender since they are short on funds. Tuchel is sure that his defence needs to be strengthened and believes that Araujo is the crucial addition needed to help Bayern win another Bundesliga championship. Die Roten will do whatever it takes to acquire the defender, so Araujo will have to decide on his future.

As coach of Bayern, Tuchel has so far spent €150 million (£129 million/$162 million) on acquisitions, with a third going to the acquisition of Kim Min-jae, a centre-half from Napoli.

The former Chelsea manager, however, still desires to add Araujo to the backfield group that already includes Kim, Matthijs de Ligt, and Dayot Upamecano.

After ending their conversation, the coach of Bayern Munich and the defender of Barcelona take their attention back to their home leagues. Bayern defence frailties continue as they were thrashed by Eintracht Frankfurt, Barcelona plays Girona, this season’s surprise package in La Liga.
