Petr Kratky before East Bengal tie

Rostyn Griffiths claimed that Petr Kratky has joined Mumbai City at the perfect time!

In a much-anticipated showdown in the ISL 2023-24, Mumbai City FC are gearing up for a high-stakes clash against East Bengal, igniting the football fervour among fans. Petr Kratky, the newly appointed head coach for the Islanders, is set to lead the charge in his inaugural home game with the team.

Let’s take a look on what head coach Petr Kratky and defender Rostyn Griffiths had to say ahead of the game:

Thoughts for the game

Petr Kratky expressed enthusiasm and excitement ahead of his first home game for the Islanders. He said, “We didn’t see too much around the surroundings. But I am excited.”

Rostyn Griffiths highlighted the importance of the two clean-sheets ahead of the game against East Bengal. “We have a game every four days. From a defensive point of view, we have two clean-sheets which is really important, because we have seen some sloppy goals this season. East Bengal have scored a few goals themselves, plus they have some dangerous players,” he mentioned.

Training Session in Mumbai

Before the game against East Bengal, Petr Kratky conducted some training sessions. When asked about the ambiance and the attitude of the players, the coach replied, “The training has been very good. Players have a good attitude and obviously they are doing their best. It was very good training session yesterday. Very very positive so far.”

Change in Coaching Style

Rostyn Griffiths explained that Petr Kratky joined the team at an important time. He mentioned, “I think he came at a perfect time. We just finished our Champions League campaign. He came with fresh eyes and energy.”

“A new coach coming in and he already pointed out a few things he has found out that we need to improve and it’s good. He sees and points out things we need to improve. He is really good with young players and I think that is good,” the defender added.

Mumbai having a upper hand tomorrow

East Bengal have underperformed this season, considering the stature of their players. Now, the team faces a formidable opponent in the form of Mumbai City FC, who are top contenders for the ISL title. Petr Kratky, however, remains cautious regarding the uncertainty of the league.

“I always respect the opposition. We have to never underestimate anyone. This is always my attitude. We have to do our best every single game. We do our best, we follow our game style and work hard, then the team can deliver,” he asserted.

The last two clean-sheets

The Islanders face a tight schedule in December, with games every four days. When asked how the recent two clean-sheets have helped boost the motivation of the team, the coach replied, “The clean-sheets were really positive. There are areas we need to improve and when we improve them, we will be more dangerous.”

Changes in the formation

Petr Kratky also assured that he won’t change the formation much. He claimed, “I don’t think there would be any changes too much, because again, the positives are there. I am very happy at the moment.”

Rostyn added on how the travelling fans will build up the momentum for the game. “Certainly when you play Kerala Blasters, East Bengal, Mohun Bagan, they bring an extra crowd. There will be our crowd as well. It’s a really good atmosphere, and our home fans are really really good. The football that we are playing gets me excited and East Bengal too, are a good team. It will be an open game.”
